RACING BETWEEN CONTINENTS

Istanbul, Turkey – It is one of the most remarkable events on the international sailing calendar. It is sailed on the natural strait that separates the European continent from Asia, divides the seventh biggest city on the planet, and whose shores are lined with historic, landmark architecture. Celebrating its fifteenth year in 2016, Turkcell Platinum Bosphorus Cup takes place from 26 to 29 May.​

Race Facts

  • Attracts up to 80 yachts from 6 metres to 27 metres in length, racing under IRC
  • Participants from Turkey, France, Bulgaria, Greece, Russia and Italy
  • One of only five times a year that the Bosphorus is closed to commercial traffic
  • Around one million viewers will watch the live feed on Saturday, 28 May
  • At the invitation of Turkcell, the record-breaking Hydros Foundation catamaran will be present promoting energy efficiency and innovation, and sailing at top speeds through the Bosphorus with the logo of Turkcell’s 4.5G, the fastest mobile internet experience on LTE
  • One of the first yachting events to use 360o technology in its video production
  • Previous participants include ISAF Rolex World Sailor, Mike Sanderson and Lionel Pean
  • Winner receives a silver perpetual trophy created by Can Yalman
  • Founded by Orhan Gorbon & ORG Sports in 2002

The Turkcell Platinum Bosphorus Cup is organized by ORG Sports and the Turkish Sailing Federation. Turkey’s integrated telecommunications operator Turkcell is the main sponsor of the event.
